Fantasy Friday #13: A Game of Manicures

Fantasy Friday

Fantasy Friday is my own feature, posted every other Friday. It’s pretty self-explanatory: I do a feature on something to do with the genre. Sometimes it will be a book recommendation, sometimes showcasing a book or series I’ve loved and other times it might be a discussion post. You’re more than welcome to join in with this feature, let me know if you make your own Fantasy Friday post!

Today I want to pick out some nail colours to match the A Song of Ice and Fire series!

I never used to wear nail varnish. But then I got a job where I could NEVER wear it, so naturally all I wanted to do was paint my nails. Now I’m working a different job, and I make sure my nails are almost always one bright colour or the other – just the other day I painted my nails TARDIS blue. Which gave me an idea for a post – nail varnishes that would fit with a specific series. A Song of Ice and Fire seemed like a great choice because of all the different house colours and sigils. So here are my choices, let me know what you think in the comments!

What do you think of my choices? Do you have any suggestions, either for these houses or any of the others featured in A Song of Ice and Fire?

    1. Well I did consider it, but I’ve gone for a grey for the Starks. And I know it’s all about the Iron Islands and the iron price, but their sigil is a golden kraken on black. So I guess gold, black or grey would work!

Or maybe one of those polishes you can get that are grey, but in the light they reflect all different colours… hmm! 😮

I was going to add Martell, but I would have done red for that one, and I didn’t want to do another red! I think it’s a red sun with an orange spear or something? So orange would definitely work, yeah 😀

      1. I hear ya, my brain just wouldn’t associate those grey-garbed people with shiny gold. I think Lannister as gold for the moola. 🙂

And you are right about Martell. I just think hot, spicy and bright when it comes to that house (Prince Doran being the exception).

      2. I did consider changing it to be honest, but I only wrote the post last night after work, and I couldn’t be bothered to go back and edit, haha!

What do you think of Oberyn Martell in the TV series? I like the casting. 🙂

  1. What a fun idea! I think you are spot on with Arryn, Baratheon, Lannister & Stark – these are my favorite colors from the nail polishes you picked.

House Umber – a brownish color like H&M Dust & Diamonds.
House Tully – OPI Alpine Snow, with perhaps blue stripes, would be fun too.
House Florant – OPI A Roll In The Hague.

    1. I’m kind of tempted to buy the Baratheon one… it’s so crazy bright, a great summer colour 😀 But I’m not sure if it would match anything I own, haha!

The one you’ve chosen for Umber looks pretty perfect! And I love the idea of the stripes for the Tullys too – since they have blue, red and silver in their sigil, I wanted to pick a colour I hadn’t really used yet.

  2. OMG, love love love love love this post you made!! Man wish I’d come up with this idea!! But now I wanna paint my nails… and I gots no nail polish o_O

    1. Ugh, it’s a pain isn’t it?? Especially as I wear it for work so I feel it has to look neat. But I can’t be bothered to redo it that often!

  3. Oh my god I love this post so much. I’m seriously almost mad that I didn’t think of doing this myself 😛 I’m lusting over all of these colors so badly…but most of all the Downtown Red and Electric Yellow. I think I might have to go out and buy those right now!

    1. Hehe! 😀 Well if you can think of another series to pick nail colours for, go for it, I’d love to see that!

I know right? I wouldn’t normally go for yellow nail varnish but I kind of love that one.
