Thoughts #23: Looking Back On My Bookish Resolutions

At the beginning of the year, I shared my Bookish Resolutions with you all. I wanted to take a look and review them, and perhaps look at them again at the end of the year or the beginning of the next!

I aimed to:

  • Read at least one book per week: definitely managed. I seem to be averaging between twelve and fourteen books a month at the moment, mostly thanks to all the Marvel comics.
  • Get my Netgalley ratio up to AT LEAST 50%: at time of writing, it’s 54.4% – and it has fluctuated a LOT between 50% and 60%. 60% has been my highest so far, but I always seem to end up requesting more after reviewing. However, apparently it was 21.3% at the beginning of the year, so I’m pretty happy with that progress. Maybe 70% for the end of December?
  • Finish my 2013 TBR Pile: ummm… nope. I’ve made some progress, but I definitely still haven’t conquered that pile – and won’t be able to for a while now.
  • Achieve my Re-read January goal: definitely not – I was a rubbish host and only managed to re-read one of the books I set out to read! I have re-read another since though.
  • Contribute points towards the Avengers vs. X-Men Challenge: I think I’ve done pretty well with this one so far! There are a couple of villains I didn’t manage to beat, but several that I have – and still time to recruit more X-Men.
  • Schedule posts ahead of time and on time: yep, I’ve been pretty good at this. I’m getting even better at scheduling weeks ahead (I even had all of July planned out by the first week of the month which has NEVER happened before!)
  • Overall goal of 50 books for the year: I’ve almost doubled this goal so… yep, good!
  • Comment regularly on other blogs: I’ve gone through periods of commenting like crazy and not commenting for a bit. So I guess it kind of balances out…?
  • Don’t get distracted by video games: I did. I’ve completed more video games in the past year than ever in my life. I’m suddenly able to finish games! I don’t know why I set this goal to be honest, if I want to play games instead of read then I can.
  • And I’m still enjoying blogging!

Thanks Bernard.

Thanks Bernard.

Did you set yourself any bookish resolutions? How have you done so far?

  1. It seems like you’re doing really well! I’m impressed that you even thought to go back and check on your progress. Bonus points! I’m pretty sure I did a goals post too, but lazy me I’m in bed with my phone right now so I’ll have to check the computer later. If so I’m curious to see what mine look like.

    1. Thanks πŸ˜€ I was just interested to review my progress, as I know I’ve definitely worked even harder on the blog this year and read even more!

  2. I prepped myself for the fact that I might get less reading in now that I was writing the blog (in comparison to last year), but it turns out I’m reading about the same amount it not a little more, so that is a relief.

  3. I should go back and look at my resolutions. It looks like you’ve been doing well. That’s great that you got your Netgalley feedback ratio up. I got mine up as well, which made me happy. I’m at around 65%, but haven’t been able to get it higher at the moment.

And yay for doubling your books read!!!

    1. Haha, it’s now dropped 1% or so because I’ve requested stuff, but I’ll be reading a LOT of review books soon so hopefully that will help πŸ™‚ 65% is still a great amount! You didn’t get that email from Netgalley did you, about sending more feedback? I’m wondering if they sent it to everyone with less than 80% feedback, or whether it was a lower ratio.

    1. I know, it’s really difficult – and now Harper have auto-approved me, it’s difficult to stop myself from just downloading EVERYTHING.

  4. I don’t have blogging goals, but I always like to see what others want to achieve in a year. Looks like you are doing great with most of them! Doubled your goal of reading 50 books is amazing Rinn!

    1. Thanks Mel πŸ˜€ Although a lot of them are graphic novels which are quicker to read – perhaps around 30 or so. I’ve raised my goal to 120 now!

    1. Haha πŸ˜€ Thanks! I don’t think it’s that high to be honest… although I guess considering it’s still 80 books reviewed, I should be proud! πŸ™‚ (Even though I’ve had that nagging email from Netgalley…)

  5. That’s great that you were able to improve your netgalley ratio. That is something I struggle with since I’m constantly clicking ooh look shiny but I don’t have the time to read anymore since moving and starting a family. *sigh* oh well my resolutions aren’t doing so well.

    1. It’s definitely always a huuuuge temptation to click on ALL the things. My ratio isn’t as high as I wanted, but it’s better than before so that’s good…

Well those things are more important than blogging! πŸ™‚
