Today’s Horror October post features the top ten books on my ‘to be read’ list that I want to read most urgently. I’d love to know if any of you have read them, and what you thought! I’ve linked to each book on Goodreads underneath the picture. These are a mix of books from Netgalley and Edelweiss that I still haven’t gotten round to, as well as my own purchases.
This House Is Haunted by John Boyne, Amity by Micol Ostow and The Haunting Season by Michelle Muto
The Furies by Mark Alpert
The Strain by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan
The Troop by Nick Cutter
A Very British Murder by Lucy Worsley
Broken Monsters by Lauren Beukes and The Ocean At The End Of The Lane by Neil Gaiman
I actually have The Strain but haven’t read it yet. I was also supposed to review The Troop and oops forgot about it. But I hear it’s REALLY scary! And I also have Broken Monsters and hope to read it soon. Awesome list!
I think I’ll try and read The Strain when I go home at Christmas, or maybe bring it back here with me 🙂
Yes, I heard The Troop was pretty spooky! And don’t worry, I have a ridiculous number of books to read and review at the moment…
Loved Ocean at the End of the Lane 🙂 A couple other on the list look really good, going to see if my library has them!
It’s a pretty short one, isn’t it? I managed to get it for £0.99 in the Kindle sale 🙂
The Strain trilogy is so good! You definitely need to get on that right away. It’s messed up but so exciting. I loved it.
I haven’t read the others but I’ll definitely have to add a few to my TBR now!
I get the impression that it’s pretty grisly 😉 I’m gonna pick it up once I’m home at Christmas I reckon! Some… lovely Christmas reading…
Excellent list! I had no idea that John Boyne had published a horror book. I haven’t read anything on the list, though I do own ‘The Strain’ and ‘The Ocean at the End of the Lane’. Perhaps now is the time to finally crack them open 😀
I actually only knew of that book because of LAST year’s Horror October! 🙂 Leanne reviewed it and it sounded soooo good. I was really sad when I missed it on Netgalley and then it popped up again at the beginning of this year.
I read The Strain and it was oh so good as a horror book. The Ocean at the End of the Lane was just okay for me though – and there’s nothing really horrific about it. Broken Monsters is on my reading list too – Beukes previous book, The Shining Girls was quite a horrific psychological thriller.
I got the impression that Ocean was fairly creepy, but I may be wrong!
Lauren Beukes has been highly recommended by several people, so I snapped up both books in a Kindle deal 🙂
HORROR BOOKS AHHHHHHH (I would avoid these all). But I have read The Ocean at the End of the Lane, and I didn’t find it that horror-y. I mean I didn’t get scared, and I’m not sure if I would describe it as psychological? But then again I don’t remember much from it, so I don’t know hahahaha.
I’d just heard that it was creepy, but apparently it’s not too bad! I guess that could be my ‘cooldown’ book if the others get to be too much 😉
