Prose & Pixels

Prose & Pixels #9: Currently Playing (July 2015)

Prose & Pixels is a feature where I discuss one of my other loves: video games. Sometimes it also combines the two. Here I’ll discuss all sorts of things, whether it’s recommendations, influences or just a good old chat.

Today I wanted to share the games I am currently playing!

Cook, Serve, Delicious!

Cook, Serve, Delicious!

Cook, Serve, Delicious! is possibly the most fun I’ve had whilst simultaneously feeling stressed. It’s a restaurant management sim, and brands itself as ‘hardcore’. It pretty much involves serving customers food and drink, whilst keeping your restaurant clean and tidy, working your way up from a greasy spoon to a five star restaurant. You must pass safety inspections, you can take part in the ‘Iron Chef’ TV show, date other chefs and more. Frantic button mashing ensues. There is something very, very addictive about it, and I’m now working my way from a four star to five star restaurant.

Far Cry 3

Far Cry 3

I really really love open world games, and Far Cry 3 is an amazing one. You play Jason, a young man on holiday with his brothers and their friends, when their skydiving adventure goes horribly wrong. They find themselves on an island where they are taken hostage by pirates. Jason manages to escape the camp, and is rescued by a group of people known as the Rakyat. They begin to teach him the path of the warrior, and he sets out to rescue each of his friends from the pirates. Whilst the main storyline sees you rescuing everyone, there are so many different sidequests and places to explore. It’s a huge tropical island, with not only dangerous people but also animals like tigers and komodo dragons. SUCH an atmospheric game!

Lego Jurassic World

Lego Jurassic World

Yessss, I already bought Lego Jurassic World. It was on sale on Bundle Stars, and I managed to pick it up for only £13. It doesn’t just cover the new film, but all four. I absolutely love the Lego games, so combined with one of my favourite films it is perfect. Plus you can be a dinosaur!

Do you enjoy playing video games? What are you currently playing?

  1. I’ve been going back recently and replaying games that I enjoy. I pulled out Need for Speed Undercover recently, a game I’ve played through many times, because I felt the urge to drive fast and customize street racers. I also recently fired up Alice: Madness Returns. Not sure what brought it up in my mind, but for some reason the heat of Summer brought with it a desire to retreat to autumn in my imagination by playing a somewhat creepy game. It is such a visual treat and is fun to be playing again. I am also continuing with my replay through Fallout 3, in anticipation of Fallout 4 in November.

    1. Now I’m back with my desktop, I’m also doing some replays – mostly Skyrim 😀 Or rather, carrying on with side quests and trying to get as many achievements as possible…

I’ve still not played the 2nd Alice game, but I did play the first a long time ago, probably at an age when I shouldn’t have – we had one of those demo CDs that used to come with PC magazines, and it had a demo of the first game on it.

I can’t wait until Fallout 4! I don’t own the other Fallouts, but I have played them a bit, however I always found them too dark (in colour, not storywise), which sort of put me off. The 4th looks more varied and interesting. That’s the thing about Skyrim – I’m getting bored of quests in caves and dark places!

  2. I haven’t played Far Cry 3 but I have played Far Cry 4 (which is super fun) so I should play it xD it looks good but the bad guy (I don’t know his name) creeps me out way more than Pagan Min…
Currently I’ve been playing Batman Arkham Knight! It’s pretty fun ^^

  3. I picked up Far Cry 3 recently but haven’t gotten to it yet. I remember the E3 trailer when it came out. Amazing! I got it at a sale with a few others (Crysis 3, Dead Space 3, Assassin’s Creed 3, Arkham Origins and Thief.) You can get some fantastic deals on games for the old systems after the new ones come out. But I didn’t want to miss out on all the great new games so…I just upgraded to Xbox One. I was immediately sucked in by Neverwinter and it has yet to let me go. Pretty great for a free game, although I’ve already dropped $20 to upgrade my gear. My wallet may regret me playing a “free” game. 🙂

    1. Get to it soon ;D Although I’m kind of stuck at the moment. I’m on a difficult mission where I have to get through quite a big enemy base without being spotted once…

Definitely, the Steam sales and Humble Bundle are just amazing!

I played Neverwinter quite a bit last year, it is a really decent MMO considering that there are so many fantasy MMOs out there. But yeah, when they’re f2p and good, you know they won’t be f2p for long… 😉

  4. Right now I’m playing Warrior Orochi 3 Ultimate and it’s pretty addicting and with how stressed I am right now with schoolwork, kind of therapeutic lol. Cook, Serve, Delicious kinda reminded me of a game I used to play on a PC but instead of burgers, it’s pizza. I don’t remember the title though. I’m looking at the game on the app store now and it looks like there’s no in-app purchases. Yay! Buying this 🙂 Thanks Rinn and awesome design! I love the pixel look!

    1. Is that a fighting game in the style of Dynasty Warriors, or am I thinking of something completely different?

Cook, Serve, Delicious isn’t just burgers – lots of different types of food! Some are HORRIBLE to make, like soup, because they’re fiddly and time consuming. Others are much easier, like burgers and pizza.

Thanks Amir! 😀 Let me know what you think of CSD 🙂

    1. Wait for a Steam/Humble Bundle sale and it gets super cheap! It’s so addictive, I’ve got my world famous platinum restaurant now though so I’m just achievement farming 😉
