2016 – The Year Of Re-Reads & Readalongs?

rereads

All through 2015, I seemed to tell myself I would soon re-read certain books and series, but I never got round to re-reading any of them. So I’m determined to make 2016 the year that I re-read these series – and why not host some readalongs/discussions so that others can join in on reading these with me?

These are the series I hope to re-read next year:

I’d love to know if any of my readers would be interested in joining in with readalongs or discussions of these books, whether you’d be reading them for the first time, or re-reading. Let me know in the comments below! πŸ™‚

Would you be interested in joining any of these re-reads/readalongs? Are there any books that you really want to re-read?

  1. I’m trying to clear backlog and signed up for 3 other read-alongs already, none of which is likely to stop me joining you for LotR and ASOIAF πŸ™‚

  2. How funny! I have also re-read Lord of the Rings every year since I was ten! I’d definitely be up for joining in a read along/discussion/anything to do with Tolkien at all!! I’m also yet to read either the Divergent or Throne of Glass series so I’d be interested in joining in a read along for those too. Great idea Rinn!

  3. I’m not one for doing a lot of re-reading, but I have read The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings multiple times. I read it again a few years ago, and might be ready to do so again soon. I might also be up for a re-read of A Song of Ice and Fire, but probably not until the final book is about to be published, assuming I live that long. I’ve never read Divergent (although the first book is sitting on my shelf) or the Throne of Glass series, so I’d be interested in a read along for those.

    1. Join, join πŸ˜€ You could be waiting a while for that final book… I feel that by the time it comes out, I’ll have forgotten everything πŸ˜‰

  4. Oh man, I’m so tempted by a Lord of the Rings readalong. I told myself that I would read it every year, but I haven’t re-read since high school. *hides*

  5. Ooh yes to all these read-alongs!

Like you I’ve read LOTR every year since I was little and I haven’t for the last two years so it would be lovely to be able to reread. And doing a Game of Thrones reread will be great because I want to reread but have no motivation because it is so long, so this will definitely help πŸ™‚

  6. Growing up and in my early 20’s re-reading was something I did far more than trying new things. Now every year I swear I’m going to re-read old favorites and I just don’t do so. More often than not, if I am doing a re-read, it is because I’m reading the book aloud to my wife. I did manage a few re-reads this year:

The Stainless Steel Rat Wants You by Harry Harrison
    Second Foundation by Isaac Asimov
and the first of the Fantagraphics Peanuts collections

I’m mid-way through a re-read of a short story collection by Michael Shaara called Soldier Boy. I actually read it in June and did not review it and have been wanting to do so but not without a re-read.

I’m hoping to take the time to experience the pleasure of re-reading more in 2016.

    1. I love re-reads – I want to experience my favourite books again and again. πŸ™‚

I’ve not read any of those books at all! Is the first where your blog name comes from?

  7. Ahhhh, I recently tried reading Throne of Glass but just couldn’t get past the first two chapters. I didn’t really connect with Celaena and I think I *thought* I sniffed out a love triangle and I wasn’t in the mood to read one. But since I’ve enjoyed most of the other things you’ve blogged about, I feel like I’m totally missing out if I don’t give Throne of Glass another chance??

    1. Aww… and yes there’s a bit of a love triangle, but it’s a good, non-angsty one. No ‘Oh I like this guy but I also like this guy – I must choose one! So much guilt’ πŸ˜›

  8. So much yes to the Song of Ice and FIre re-read! I definitely feel like I run the risk of having forgotten everything before Winds of Winter gets here, so I’m SUPER keen on a re-readalong! Let me know if you want a co-host πŸ˜‰ (Extra responsibility = less chance of slacking off!!) I may also join in with the Throne of Glass re-readalong πŸ™‚

    1. That’s what I’m thinking! I mean, sure, we can watch the TV series, but there are so many little bits, plus the series takes a different path in season 5. I will keep you in mind for a GoT readalong – and if you get a sudden urge to read it, just email me and we can set it up sooner rather than later!
