Today I am moving to a new city, to my very own flat (yippee!), and tomorrow I start a new job. I am so, so excited – I’ve been unemployed since Christmas, and it has been boring. But now I finally have something – it’s not a museum job, but it’s a different career path that I’m definitely interested in, so fingers crossed.
I’ll be internet-less for a little bit, so don’t expect any posts/social media activity until at least the weekend, but also I may not post for a short while whilst I’m getting settled and exploring my new home. See you all soon! 🙂
Yep that’s right, today I am heading back to my favourite country for a holiday! As many of you know, I did my Master’s degree in the Netherlands from 2014 – 2015, and blogged about the experience. I loved it there so much, and would have happily stayed if I could. Unfortunately I’ve been unable to head back there until now. I’m visiting with one of my best friends, who unfortunately was unable to visit when I was there, and I can’t wait to show her around the places that I’ve come to love so much. We’re also going to De Efteling, a theme park that I never managed to visit when I lived in Leiden.
I’m away from February 5th – 11th, so obviously won’t be on the blog/checking social media during that time, but I’ve got a few posts scheduled. However, I may just refuse to leave the Netherlands when it comes to it, so maybe this is a final goodbye 😉
See you all next week, and I’m sure I’ll have some fun photos or something to share! 🙂
Just a note to say that I am putting the blog on hiatus this month, after last month turned out to be quite different from what I expected! I’m hoping I can take the time out to catch up. I’m so behind on reviews (quite a few books read months ago but never reviewed), and would like to build up a bit of a backlog so I have stuff to post if I need to take a break. So December will be my time off – I’ll also be job hunting and hopefully kick starting my museum career…
I’ll pop up now and again to announce the giveaway winners from the various Sci-Fi Month giveaways, and also to post my usual top books of the year, but other than that I’ll probably be pretty quiet. I’ll still be around on Twitter and Goodreads though!
See you all in 2017! 🙂
It’s now September, which means we’re even closer to Sci-Fi Month! If you’re not aware of Sci-Fi Month, want to learn more about it, or want to take part, then please take a look at this post for more information.
There are currently more than 30 participants signed up (plus plenty of others who have shown interest), and a couple of authors and publishers. The wonderful Angry Robot Books have even sent me a box of books to give away for the event. Contents of said box to be revealed in November. 😉
If you’re interested in the month but haven’t yet signed up, please do – it really helps me to know how many people will be taking part! You can do so via this Google form.
If you’re signed up and can’t wait for Sci-Fi Month, don’t forget to share your excitement on Twitter using #RRSciFiMonth, or tweeting the @SciFiMonth account!
Hello everyone! Just a really quick post to say that I’m taking a short hiatus whilst I sort some life things out (i.e. moving AGAIN and sorting out my career!). I thought it would be better to just leave something short here than no explanation at all. I expect I’ll be back in mid-August, and hopefully will have lots of stuff for you all then. 🙂
See you in a few weeks!
Once again, I’ve been a bit rubbish at posting lately. There are two reasons for this:
- Work has gotten super busy, so when I get home all I want to do is crash in front of the TV or play video games. I’ve barely been reading.
- I bought Stardew Valley in the Steam sale last weekend, and I’ve been a little bit addicted ever since. It eats up a LOT of time and you don’t even notice…
However, this weekend I’m going to work on getting some posts scheduled, so hopefully I’ll have lots of content for July!
As many of you know, Sci-Fi Month is returning for another year. At the time of the announcement, I had no prepared any graphics for the event, but I’ve since had time to put a few together, so here they are. Please make sure to save them to your own server. You are more than welcome to make your own graphics of course, and if you’d like them shared on this page (with credit, naturally) so that other participants can use them, please let me know!
I hope you’re excited for Sci-Fi Month! 🙂
With my thesis nearly finished and my Masters degree nearly over, my enthusiasm for blogging is returning. And with it, I’ve decided to make a few changes to the blog.
Here’s what is happening:
- I have retired a few regular features, as they weren’t exactly ‘regular’ any more. Weekly Roundup and Turning Off The TV are now under Misc. features, although they might crop up now and again.
- Once I start posting Fantasy Friday again, it will probably only be once a month. It’s quite a demanding theme and right now my inspiration is gone…
- New post headers to fit in more with the theme! I was getting pretty sick of the old ones, and these feel more professional.
- I’m planning on involving video games, films, music and television more heavily, not just in relation to books. Books will, of course, remain the main focus, but I’d like to discuss other things too. Series I’m currently watching, film and video game reviews, recommendations, etc. This is the most major change!
- Some general tidying/cleaning up, so if things look a bit funny at times then that’s why!
I’ve already got quite a few posts planned out and some ideas, so let’s hope this enthusiasm remains!
Or actually, I don’t know. I just wanted to post to let you all know that posts might be a bit sporadic for a little bit. As of right now, I don’t have anything planned out – and all through January and February I had the month planned ahead! I have plenty of ideas, I just need to find the time and motivation to sit down and write them out.
I need to make sure I focus on my thesis because OH MY GOD THERE’S ONLY THREE MONTHS LEFT TO WRITE IT WHAT. I really have no idea where the time has gone here… the two years I spent working and saving to come here dragged by so slowly, and time has just FLOWN by since August, when I moved to the Netherlands.
I’ve also spent a lot of my time here just feeling like I shouldn’t be. I don’t feel smart enough to be here, I swear when everyone else talks in class they sound really intelligent, and I’m just sat there trying to think of something, anything to say without sounding stupid. So I think I need to work a lot harder than I am… I’ve pretty much spent this week finishing an essay that was due on Friday, and as soon as that was done letting myself have the rest of the week off – playing video games and binge watching TV shows. Oops.
So yeah, I will post when I feel like it, and keep the reviews coming as I’m trying to read as many of my review copies as possible. I got my Netgalley ratio up to 62%, which is the highest it’s ever been!
I’m not going anywhere, I just wanted to let people know what was going on, especially as I’m REALLY behind on comments – my own and those on other blogs! Sorry!
