About Me

Rinn

Non-bookish life…

Hello! My name is Rinn, I’m in my 20’s and from the UK. I am an Archaeology post-graduate, and am working on developing my museum career.

My non-bookish passions include archaeology and history, music of all kinds (especially old blues and classic rock as well as film and video game soundtracks) and video games. I try and include my other interests on the blog to make it feel more unique, and more of my own personal space on the internet.

And bookish life…

Ever since I can remember I have always loved to read. I remember getting into trouble as a child because I would often stay up late to read. Whilst I will read almost anything, my particular favourite genres are fantasy and science fiction, and my favourite books can be viewed here – but my absolute favourite book is J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, and I have explained exactly why that is in a previous post.

I love the smell of a new book, and how it looks when it is pristine and brand new. But I also love well-thumbed books that have obviously been devoured many times. If I had to choose between a printed book and an e-book, a printed book would win every time. However, right now I have to rely mainly on my Kindle and my room feels wrong, as I only have about eight books…

Charity shops are my downfall. Cheap books! There is a fantastic one in my hometown that is absolutely crammed, and I really can’t go in there without buying at least one book, normally more. Often, I donate a bag of stuff, and come back with a bag of books… Oh, and my family are just as bad.

I also used to work in a book shop when I was in sixth form, and I got a 70% discount on most stock, 20% on brand new stock. Naturally, most of my wages went back into the shop, and I have so many books yet to read!

Authors I have met/seen…

Malorie Blackman, Laini Tayor, Lauren Owen, Patrick Ness, Meg Rosoff, Sarah J. Maas, David Levithan, Maureen Johnson, Mary Beard, Jaine Fenn, Janet Edwards, Ian Whates, Philip Reeve, Jacqueline Wilson, Jamila Gavin, Dick King-Smith, Kathy Reichs, Val McDermid, Julian Baggini, Ian Rankin, A.C. Grayling, Eoin Colfer, Brooke Magnanti, Sebastian Faulks, Paul Auster, Philip Pullman and Peter Dixon. There’s plenty more I’d love to meet!
